Branch E


Bernard Padberg (1848-1914) Branch E, is the son of Albertus (1813-1898) and Elisabeth Knippschild Padberg (1823-1865). Bernard is brother to Heinrich (Branch M), Frederick Eduard (Branch O), and Hubert (Branch P).

Bernard immigrated in 1872 to Missouri from Holland on a ship named Canada and arrived at the Port of New York on September 23, 1872. He married Catherine Betten (1855-1909) in Fredericktown, Missouri.

They had six children. The first two were male twins who died at birth in 1880. Next came female triplets in 1882. One of the triplets died at birth. Lisette (1882-1956) married George Bishop. Anna Katherine (1882-1948) married James Buxton (1875-1956). Both married daughters had children. The last child of Bernard and Catherine was Christopher Edward (1893-1978). He married Ruth Dessie Badgley (1893-1978) and they also had children.

Bernard applied for citizenship in 1913 and filed the “Declaration of Intention” which began the five-year waiting program for naturalization. However, he did not live to become a citizen.
